Why Dramione?
I just thought that I would share what I wrote about dramione on my dramione sideblog (check it out! ultimatelygrey.tumblr.com).
There are many different interpretations and spins of dhr imo, it really depends on how you perceive the ship and what you like. Some fanfic authors like to explore the dark side of the characters for literary purpose and personal reason, but the core of the ship for the majority of us is the growth, the change and the redemption.
What interests me about dhr is the philosophical side of it, the deep interpretation of them as individuals and them as a unit. I think both characters have things they can learn from each other. I read a line somewhere that I found similar to how I view dramione, that Draco is the grey in Hermione’s black and white, and vice versa.
Dramione is always something bigger than dramione; it’s the war, it’s the prejudice, it’s the sides they are on, something that has started way before them, something that isn’t about them yet simultaneously being everything about them. They are the symbols of Purebloods and Muggleborns. For me the attraction is in how the opposite and something unlikely could meet, how that could give birth to existentialism and growth; painful, gut-wrenching growth but growth nevertheless. It’s the deconstruction and reconstruction of beliefs and worldviews, the panic, fear and anxiety, the possible struggles and the possible redemption. The actions of surviving, getting back up and persevering. Choice and consequence.
There’s a side of dramione that explores how chaos can eventually be brought to order. How something that’s as messy as the clashing of their identities, could perhaps mesh wonderfully together after some work (facing mistakes, forgiveness, etc). It doesn’t hurt that the drama and the angst that could ensue (eg. people are against their relationship) makes this interpretation of Draco and Hermione more enjoyable lol. The possible intellectual banters between them is definitely a plus.
Dramione is all about possibilities.
