I like to think that the reason Slughorn is so quick to assume that Harry’s potions have become bad because he’s lovesick, is because he saw Lily’s potions decline in their quality briefly when she first started going out with James, because he kept distracting her and she couldn’t take her eyes off him. And Slughorn’s just like ‘welp, here we go again’. Tis canon for me now.
